Students are devoted to Miss Maria’s School of Dance in Watertown, MA because of the wonderful dance teachers and the instruction is top notch. Another reason to be a part of their community? They think about the world outside of their studio walls. Just two examples among many…last September dancers surprised a lifelong Watertown resident at her 87th birthday party who was with 200 of her friends raising money for homeless veterans in New England. Also recently, the mother of one of the studio’s instructors was diagnosed with cancer. While fighting that battle, she and her daughter tapped into their creative sides to make fun hair clips. The hair clips were sold at the studio with 100% of the proceeds going to charity. At this year’s recital, Miss Maria’s School of Dance partnered with FloraCause and donated a portion of the proceeds to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
The studio is always looking for opportunities to perform for the elderly or others in need. In particular, their kids have brought smiles to the faces of folks who need some cheer, especially over the holiday season, by performing at 100 Warren Street and the Sons of Italy during their Holiday Parties and also for the Watertown Rotary Club Senior Citizen Luncheons. They have performed at the local Relay for Life Events to fight cancer and have held arts & crafts time at their studio before the performances to allow the dancers to create luminaries that lined the course for the Relay for Life participants.
It’s great when we see a small business utilize their resources and talent to benefit others! Know of a business that is similarly charitable or have some ideas of your own to share? We want to know!
